Cafe Thelema, 9/14/11

Wed, Sept 14, 2011 @ 7-9 pm
Rachael's Cafe
300 E 3rd St, Bloomington

"Brother (Mad Doctor) Beebz will be giving a beginner's guide to the modern chemical analysis of the 'Elixir of Immortality.' I'm especially looking forward to all of the newfangled charts, graphs, and other inscrutables."
From Thelemapedia: Alchemy is an early practice combining elements of chemistry, physics, astrology, art, semiotics, metallurgy, medicine, mysticism, and religion. Two intertwined goals sought by many alchemists were the philosopher's stone, a mythical substance which would enable the transmutation of common metals into gold; and the universal panacea, a remedy that would cure all diseases and prolong life indefinitely. Alchemy can be regarded as the precursor of the modern science of chemistry prior to the formulation of the scientific method.

Black Cross -- Mass of the Star -- 9/10/11

Saturday, September 10 at 8:00pm

The Mass of the Star is a Eucharistic ritual that invokes the energy associated with The Star Tarot Trump. It is decidedly Thelemic in themes but focuses on the Feminine god forms of the Thelemic Pantheon, namely Nuit and Babalon.

This is one of the official rituals of the Gnostic Order of the Black Cross. Those interested in attending should contact Marcus Pulis at anpu_azrael@yahoo.com to RSVP and get directions to the temple (which is located in Elnora, IN).

Black Cross -- Fae Ritual -- 10/7/11

Friday, October 7, 2011
Ritual: 7:00 pm

Mandy of the Gnostic Order of the Black Cross is leading an outdoor ritual and camping event just outside of the Black Cross Temple in Elnora, In. Those planning on camping should have tents set up and be ready for ritual by 7:00pm on Friday.

From Marcus Pulis, Grand Hierophant of Black Cross: "The ritual is a Faery style ritual which is a nice change. That doesn't from what I understand mean you should expect it to be less intense as I am told the Fae are quite fun. This ritual will be done outdoors next to the Temple at our fire area. I look forward to seeing what Mandy does."

Families with children are welcomed, but I (Laurelei) am certain that the members of Black Cross will appreciate all ritual participants adhering to a certain level of ritual etiquette.

To RSVP and receive driving directions, contact Marcus Pulis at anpu_azrael@yahoo.com

Thelemic Ritual at UU Church 8/27/11

There will be a Thelemic ritual on Saturday, Aug. 27th beginning at 5:30 PM in the library of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Bloomington, IN. The ritual will last approximately 90 minutes and light refreshments will be made available. Because of the iconoclastic nature of this ritual, it is an age 18+ event. This is the first overtly Thelemic ritual to be performed at the UU Church in Bloomington in several years (if not ever), so please come show your support. We hope to see you there!

Cafe Thelema, 8/10/11

Wed, 8/10/11 6:30-8:00 pm

Rachel's Cafe
300 E. 3rd St
Bloomington, IN

This Cafe Thelema's topic will be "Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel" which occurs at Tiphareth on the Tree of Life. Its meaning in Hebrew is Beauty. It is the 6th Sephiroth and it corresponds with the Sun and Anahata (heart) chakra.

And now for some quotes from Promethea:
“This sphere’s the gold that alchemists sought. Discovering it is what magicians call the Great Work.”
“Tiphereth’s where we encounter ou...r Holy Guardian Angel, our highest self.”
“…like the visionary Immanuel Swedenborg said, ‘Angels know nothing of time’. For our highest self, every moment is eternal.”
“Will I meet my holy guardian angel here?”
“Maybe not. Maybe you’re already wearin’ your holy Guardian Angel, you ever think of that?”

Rachael's Cafe doesn't have any other events scheduled for that night so we will not be restricted on time. We can also talk about the possibility of other meeting locations if need be. Sorry if this date conflicts with any other events.

Art Salon at Indy PPD -- Calling Magical Artists!

Last year was the launch of the Art Salon at Indy's Pagan Pride Day. It was a successful inauguration, and we are looking forward to continuing with this magical alchemy in 2011.

The process is simple enough:

1. You (the painter, photographer, sculptor, pen-and-ink wielder, etc) prepare/select 1-3 art pieces along a Pagan, magical or occult theme. (If you doubt the fit of a piece for this installation, send me a pic for review.)

2. You (the artist) reserve a spot with me (the Art Salon Coordiantor). I'll get some details from you at this time to make both of our lives easier on Sept 24 (the day of Indy PPD). This will include name, size, price, etc. for each piece.

3. We both arrive during the set-up time (8am-10am) on Sept 24th at Broad Ripple Park to get set up. You leave you work lovingly in my care and enjoy your day. NOTE: Hanging art should be wire-hung.

My beloveds caught in front of the art stands!
4. You come back at 5pm to pick up your portion of the sale (or any unsold pieces).  You will keep 90% of the price you set, and 10% will be a donation from you to PPD.

We thank our community for this opportunity to showcase their work!

Please pass this information along to any artists who may be interested in participating. Address all questions to Laurelei at laurelei_lb@yahoo.com.

Indy Pagan Pride Day

Indianapolis Pagan Pride Day is the closest PPD event in geographic area to Bloomington. South Central Indiana notables, like Edain McCoy and Black Bear Grove, represent their work and connect with the larger Pagan community at this once a year event.

The Pagan Pride Project spans the globe, but it began right here in Indiana with the vision and efforts of Dagonet and Cecylyna Dewr (founders of Thalia Clan in Indianapolis) and a team of inspired co-conspirators that reached into other cities. Each Pagan Pride event strives to offer at least a ritual, a food drive and press release to promote public awareness and education.

The Indianapolis Pagan Pride Day, among the founding PPD events in the country, offers several rituals, a bountiful merchants' row, an auction, a drum circle, workshops, an art salon, dance performances, community feast, bardic circle, food and toiletries drives, and the very important press release and public education.

In 2011, PPD will be held at Broad Ripple Park (the event's long-standing venue) at 1550 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN  on September 24 from 10am until 5pm.

Earth Kin Beltane Ritual

Notice from Earth Kin at the the Unitarian Universalist Church in Bloomington:

We will celebrate the happy day of Beltane on April 30th at the Unitarian Universalist Church.  We will gather at 7:00pm with ritual beginning at 7:30pm.  If weather permits, we will be in the courtyard to dance the May pole and jump the fires.  Wear your party finest, bring food to share, flowers for the altar and an expectation for a rousing good time.  This is the time when the God and Goddess finally get together to consumate the prolific new life of spring and bring in the summer season.  We will weave our hopes and dreams into the pole as we dance so bring those along as well.  If it rains we will be in the fellowship hall and still dance and jump just with a smaller pole and a smaller fire.  So, come one and all to welcome the lovely month of May!

BAP Study Group begins Feb 19, 2011

The Bloomington Area Pagan Study Group -- an off-shoot of the local Pagan Meetup -- will hold its first meeting on February 19, 2011 in Owen County at the home of two Meetup members.

Natalie and Laurelei Black will be facilitating Craft 101 and 201 courses. These cycles will be presented from prepared syllabi, but whole-group interaction, participation and contribution will be most beneficial for learning. The schedules will include rituals as well as workshops.

Beyond the 201 level, the study group will decide as a whole in which direction to proceed.

The 101 and 201 will be foundational elements, and we will likely revisit them periodically so that new members are able to benefit from them. It would also give established members teaching opportunities as they grow within their own studies.

The study group is a family-friendly environment, which means that children are welcome to attend and are likely to be present at any given meeting. Activities will be made available to the group's youth, and someone will always be supervising them.

For more information, including directions to the meeting location, please join the BAP study group.

Meet (up) & Greet

The local Pagan Meetup's Meet & Greet is happening this Friday (Feb 11) from 6pm until about 8 pm at Stefano's in Bloomington.

The Meet & Greet offers attendees the opportunity to socialize in an easy, carefree environment with other folks on the path. Whether you're a long-time practitioner or a newbie, a solitary or a covener, a Wiccan or a Thelemite, or somewhere outside all description, you'll find plenty of people to chat with about whatever interests you.

Meet & Greets are not class-based and there is no specific topic of discussion. This is a chance to network with others.

For more details, and to RSVP, got to Greater Bloomington Area Pagan Meetup.

Launch of Bloomington Magick

Welcome and Well Met!

Bloomington, Indiana bustles with activities of all kinds, and -- if one but scratches beneath the most superficial layer a bit -- there are even those among the arcane and occult.

The mission of this humble blog space is to provide folks in the greater Bloomington area with access to rituals, workshops, study groups/covens/circles, and directories of stores and services that may be of use in your studies.

Feel free to post comments with your ideas or events.

Hail and Fare-Thee-Well!
